Every Thirty Days

Today I spent 600 SEK (about 64.50 EUR) for a new SL 30-dagarskort.

SL 30-dagarskort

With it I can travel by bus, night bus, Tunnelbana, Pendeltåg, Djurgardenfärjan and some other commuter trains for the next 30 days. The ticket is valid 24/7 everywhere in Stockholm County so that it is even possible to do longer trips (e.g. to Vaxholm, an island in Stockholm's skärgård).

But nevertheless the price is much (~ 6 times) higher than the student ticket in Bielefeld which has probably a comparable coverage.

Allegedly, a majority of Stockholm's students think that the ticket is too expensive. That's why SSCO (The Federation of Student Unions in Stockholm) started a campaign to convince Storstockholms Localtrafik ("SL") to establish a student discount. They already collected more than 18 000 signatures, but nevertheless politicians and SL still disapprove of a discount.

Election and Kaiserschmarrn

Yesterday, as usual on Sundays, we met to cook something more extraordinary than during the week (Kaiserschmarrn) but there was a second reason: the federal election in Germany.

Thanks to the German broadcasting institution ARD, which had an Internet live stream of the election program from 5 to 11 p.m., we had a full coverage of all the news, comments and discussions. Additionally there was also the funny live ticker "Wir gucken Wahl." from sueddeutsche.de.

All in all we had a lot of fun and (as usual) a fantastic dinner.

Microwave Oven Array

Having lunch in a student cafeteria/restaurant here at KTH (and I think at Swedish universities in general) is very expensive. A normal meal including salad, a hot plate and a glass of tap water costs 50 SEK - ca. 5.35 EUR - or 42 SEK if you buy 10 meal vouchers at once.

Therefore many students bring there own meal and heat it in one of the many "microwave oven arrays" which are located in different places all over the campus.

The microwave oven array on the photo consists of ten 800 Watt Electrolux microwaves and is located in the Väg och Vatten building.

First Month Statistics

August is already over, so I analysed the logfiles of my webserver to get a picture of my readers.

From 29th of July until 31st of August this blog had 933 page impressions (number of delivered html files) whereof 692 were requests for the main page http://buschmeier.org/bh/stockholm/. The others were requests for permalinked posts or archive pages. This makes an average of 27 users per day.

The Atom-Feed for "Hendrik in Stockholm" was requested 268 times. This is not very much and indicates that most of my readers don't know why and how to use it. If you want to learn what this RSS/Atom/Feed thing is, I recommend to read "What's RSS?" by Seth Godin.

All in all I am very satisfied with the results. I managed to write 20 posts in 34 days and got 16 comments. I hope I can hold this posting rate and generate a bit more traffic (41.80 MB this month) and I hope to get more comments (but that's up to you).
